Gladys James Biles, 89, of Amarillo died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007. Memorial services will be at a later date. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Biles was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Trenton, Tenn., to Benjamin Franklin James and Margie Brewer James. Mrs. Biles had been a civil service worker for more than 20 years before retiring. She was the quintessential Army wife who supported her husband through World War II, the Korean War and service throughout Europe and the United States. She had traveled all over the world. Mrs. Biles loved to cook, sew and make jewelry and was known for giving it all away. She married Randall Hoyt Biles in October 1937 in St. Louis. She was a Church of Christ member. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years and a grandson, Erick Biles. Survivors include a son, Gary Randall Biles of California; a daughter, Janice Biles Shollenbarger and husband Joe of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Randall, Scott and Keith Shollenbarger and Tracy Lacombe; and 10 great-grandchildren, Carson, Brendan, Annah, Brady, Derek, Claire, Rachael, John Michael, Andrew and Matthew. The family suggests memorials to High Plains Children's Home, 11464 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118; or BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.
