Catherine was the third of five daughters of Patrick Dever and Susanna Harrity Dever. She was born in Mauch Chunk, which later changed its name to Jim Thorpe after the famous Olympian.

The young family settled in Lambertville, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey in 1861, and that is where she spent most of the rest of her life.

Sometimes called Kate, she never really knew her father, having lost him in the Civil War in 1862.

She worked as a seamstress before her marriage.

Catherine wed John Michael Masterson on Apr. 9, 1877 in Lambertville. Together they had eight children: Joseph in 1878, Susannah Elizabeth in 1880, Mary in 1882, Catherine Agusta in 1884, Julia in 1886, John Michael Jr. in 1888, Francis Patrick in 1890 and Margaret in 1892.

She was a homemaker. She is shown in the photo with her husband and two eldest children. For brief periods, she lived in Massachusetts and Connecticut where her husband supervised paper factories.

Catherine was staying with her sister Mamie after a stroke when she died of hypostatic pneumonia.

Her final resting place is in the unmarked Masterson plot adjacent to the service road, between the Price - Wilde gravestone and the gravestones of Florence Ledger McGowan and Sister Mary Marguerite Hartpence. Thanks so much to Joe Masterson for alerting my cousin Nettie and me to the plot.
