Asa Franklin Johnson was the 5th child of 15 children, born to Richard Martin Johnson and Anna Helen Anderson Johnson,on Dec 15 1889 in Neodesha,Wilson County,Kansas, and passed away in Lincoln Community Hospital in Hugo,Colorado on July 5,1979 at 4:30 p.m. at the age of 89 years,6 months and 20 days.
He came to Colorado in 1912 and homsteaded 18 miles north of Seibert. OnSept. 6,1915, he was married to Elberta May Potts at her home in Littleton,Colo. Six daughters were born to this union: Anna Alberta Johnston,Christine Roberta Simmons,now living in Flagler;Evelyn Ruth Smith of Salt Lake City,Utah;Asa Faye Savage of San Marcos,Calif.;Albertine Louise Dorsey of Flagler; and Dorethy Ferne Cummings of San Diego,Calif.
Asa farmed and raised cattle,wheat and hogs until he retired. He moved into Seibert in 1943 where he has resided since.
He joined the Baptist Church when a youn man and had tried to be a Christian and to help neighbors and friends and everyone he could. He was a good and faithful husband and father andwill be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He was a member of the Senior Citizens and enjoyed rattling his bones in the R.S.V.P. Band at the nursing home and hospitals as long as he was able to do so.
He is survived by his wife,Bertie,all six daughters,16 grandchildren,27 great-grandchildren,tow sons-in-law,Ed Savage and Ralph Smith;5 sisters,Vinnie Buckley,Pearl Goodrich,Melinda Kurtz,Bessie Webb,and Olive Stevens;2 brothers,Raymond Johnson and Pete Johnson;2 sisters-in-law, Laura Mumm and Gina Johnson;2 brothers-in-law,Ezra Potts and Frank Stevens; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents,4 sisters,3 brothers, 2 granddaughters and 1 great-grandson.
Services were conducted in the RLDS Church in Seibert,Colorado,on July 10,1979 with Elder Bill Livingston and Elder David Reid officiating.
"In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Betty Reid,Bonnie Hughes and Jacque Levin and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" was sung by Bonnie Hughes with Margaret Mason,organist. Vickey Eagleton played prelude and postlude hymns.
Interment was in the Seibert Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Gene Dorsey, Billy Simmons,Artie Dorsey,Allen Cronkhite, Geno Hiltner and Alan Bancroft. Honorary pallbearers were,Warren Bowser, Perry Thompson,Jack Bancroft,Clifford Schnacker,Lee Hase and Stanley Geiken.
Love Funeral Home of Limen were in charge of arrangements.
