THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, October 27, 1921, page 1. "DEATH OF LOIS ATKINSON - Word was received by Mr. and Mrs. I. H. Atkinson, former residents of this place, but now of Collins neighborhood, that their daughter, Lois, had been seriously injured in an automobile accident at Perry, Kans., late Friday evening. Mrs. Atkinson departed at once for Perry, but a later message was received stating that Lois had passed away, Saturday morning, before her mother had reached her bedside. Miss Lois, who had been making her home with her sister, Mrs. Fred Lakin, and attending high school, was one of a party of four, coming home from a football game at a neighboring town; near Perry it was necessary to cross a double track railway, the S. F. and U. P. running parallel; the young folks saw the train from the east, but were unaware that there was also one approaching on the other track from the west, and were struck, the driver being instantly killed; the other young lady lived three hours, and at last accounts the fourth member of the party was still living, but so seriously injured that death would be a welcome relief. Mrs. Atkinson and Mrs. Lakin and son arrived home with the body on Monday morning; funeral services were held at the Church of Christ, Collins, Wednesday afternoon, and interment was made in the Maxwell cemetery. Obituary will be published next week."
