German Royalty. The Duchess of Connaught, she was born Luise Marguerite Alexandra Victoria Agnes at the Marble Palace near Potsdam, Germany, and was the daughter of Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia and Princess Marie of Anhalt-Dessau. She married Prince Arthur Saxe-Coburg, Duke of Connaught, on March 13, 1879 at St. George's Chapel. The couple had three children - Margaret, Arthur, and Patricia. Louise accompanied her husband, a career army officer, on his various deployments to Malta, India, South Africa, and Canada, where he served as Governor-General for 5 years. She became colonel-in-chief of the 199th Canadian Infantry Battalion and chief of the 64th Regiment of Infantry, Prussian Army. Queen Victoria invested her daughter-in-law with the Order of Victoria and Albert (first class), and appointed her a Lady of the Imperial Order of the Crown of India in 1879. During the influenza epidemic of 1917-18, Louise died of bronchitis and influenza at Clarence House at the age of 56. Her husband survived her by 25 years.
