DONALD L. KRONING lost his valiant battle to live longer than Methuselah on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at the age of 93. Born in the Houston heights on February 8, 1914 to John A. and Nellie Florence Kroning, Donald was the youngest of seven children. Donald was a native Houstonian and graduated from Reagan High School in 1931. Donald proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Quarter Master Corp. He was involved in protecting Allied gasoline supplies during the Battle of the Bulge. After his military service, he worked for Thompson-White Lumber Company and went on to become a successful self-employed contractor repairing FHA homes all over the Houston area. Donald was a loving husband and father who always put his family first. His hobbies included woodworking and gardening. He had a great sense of humor that was maintained to his final days. Preceded in death by his first wife of fifty years and the mother of his children, Margaret McIntire Kroning, and his second wife, Ruth Droegemueller Kroning, Donald is survived by daughters, Donna Kroning of Pearland and Nancy A. Kroning of Manvel. He is also survived by nephews, Robert C. McIntire of Austin and Roger C. Kroning, Jr. of Houston; nieces, Betty Jean Brogdon of Midway and Jessie Lindley of Eugene, Oregon; and his special canine companion, Molly Mutt. His family would like to thank Pastor Donald Black from Trinity Lutheran Church; The Methodist Hospital, Kindred Hospital Medical Center, especially physical therapists Ernie and Maria; TIRR Hospital and the Hospice Care Team of Lake Jackson for their professionalism and excellent care. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer. A service to celebrate Donald's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 29, 2007 in the chapel of Forest Park Westheimer. Interment will follow in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
