US Congressman. Elected as a Democrat to represent Nebraska's 2nd District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1989 to 1995. He was defeated for reelection in 1994. He also served as a law clerk to the United States District Court Judge Oliver Gasch from 1969 to 1970, and as a Member of the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature representing its 6th District from 1979 to 1986. Hoagland served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He passed away from complications of Parkinson's disease in a Washington, D.C. hospital.
