Painter. Cuixart was one of Spain's best regarded contemporary Abstract artists. Along with Tàpies, Ponç, Brossa and Tharrats, he was a founder-member of the Surrealist Catalan group "Dau al Set" in 1948, that which continued the artistic trends interrupted during the Spanish Civil War. During his long career he switched from Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism, better known in Spain and Latin America as Informalism. In 1959 he was awarded the Gran Premi de la Biennal de São Paulo. His many works include "Flor Esventada," "Cercle Doré," "Boscatge de Varignon," "Exqueix" and "Aonia."
