Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Corporal in Company I, 138th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in the Battle of Sailors Creek, Virginia on April 6, 1865. His citation reads simply "Capture of flag." His Medal was issued on May 10, 1865.
