Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. Served in the Civil War as a Sergeant in Company D, 5th Vermont Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Petersburg, Virginia on April 2, 1865. His citation reads "First to scale the enemy's works and plant the colors thereon". His Medal was issued on October 28, 1891.
