World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in London, England, he served as a Midshipman in the British Royal Navy. During the troop landing on V Beach Cape Helles, Gallipoli, Turkey, on April 25, 1915, the ship HMS River Clyde was under a murderous fire attempting to get the lighters into position on the shore. Midshipman Drewry with three other and his commanding officer left the ship to work on securing the lighters on the line. Midshipman Drewry was wounded in the head, but continued his work and twice subsequently attempted to swim from lighter to lighter securing the station line. for gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on August 16, 1915. He later achieved the rank of Lieutenant but was accidentally killed while on active service on the HMS William Jackson at Scapa Flow, Orkney Islands.
