Professional Baseball Player. He was an amateur baseball star in the 1860s, playing for the pioneering Philadelphia Athletics team of the time. He played one game in what is considered an official Major Baseball League, coming out of retirement for the Athletics for the October 20, 1871 game against the Chicago White Stockings. That game decided the champions of the first season of the National Association League, which is considered to be the first professional modern league. He did not make a hit, but his team won 4 to 1. He was 40 years old at the time, and his 1831 birthdate marks him as the earliest-born player in the history of Major League baseball.
