Actor. He was an American stage and film actor of the 1920s and 1930s, mainly in silent films. He is credited with at least 28 film roles. He appeared with William Powell and Myrna Loy in the 1936 comedy, "After the Thin Man." Other films include "Are We Civilized?" in 1934, "Custer of Big Horn" in 1926 and as the first actor to ever portray Wyatt Earp in film, "Wild Bill Hickok" in 1923. In 1937 at age 64, he had a role in "Wells Fargo," playing an unnamed townsperson. By 1940, his film career had ended. In 1940 he was part of the make-up staff on the 1940 film "Northwest Passage." In February of 1910, Herbert Maxwell Lindley married Elizabeth Fisher, and staying married until his death. He appears in Vaudeville and silent films with his wife, whose stage name was "Bessie Fisher." The couple had five children. For generations, several members of his family remained in the Hollywood film industry.
