Esther C. Townsend, 97, died at 7:50 am on Sunday, October 27, 2002in Wabash County at the Millers Merry Manor West after an extended illness. She died of Senile Marasmus, Senility, and old age. She had been at the Miller's Merry Manor in Peru, Indiana so she could be close to family, but this facility closed. She was transferred with her daughter Kay Francis Townsend to the closest facility, which was the Wabash Facility. She was born in Miami County on October 15, 1905 to the late Noah and Mary Cooper See. She was a high school graduate and homemaker.

Siblings: Raymond L. See, Glen Marvin See, Goldie See (Correll), Dora M. See, and Robert E. See.

She married William D. Townsend on July 22, 1922 in Miami County, Indiana. He died January 2, 1965. They had 8 children together: George A. Townsend, Howard Edward "Eddie" Townsend, Maxine Townsend, Mary Townsend (Cundiff), Jane Ann Townsend, Esther Townsend (Russell), Kay Francis Townsend, and Susie Townsend (Hughes).

She was a member of the Ladies' Home League at the Peru Salvation Army.

She had funeral services at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Flowers Leedy Funeral Home in Peru, Indiana. Pastor Ron Shaner and American Legion Chaplain Leon Brown officiated. She was buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru, Indiana.

Her son George Townsend, find a grave number 14789289, is buried at the Salem Cemetery, Northwest of Fulton, Indiana, and a linkage has been requested at that memorial. Pending contributors response/linkage.

Esther's middle name, according to the Index of Miami County Marriages, was Lena. In older times, maiden names became middle name. Her maiden name was See. When asked about her middle name & possible that when she said "See" it was taken as "C."
