Shelley K. Douglass Garcia passed away suddenly on Nov. 14, 2007, in Tampa, Fla.

She was born to Charles and Alice Douglass in Sidney on Nov. 17, 1959. Shelley graduated from Capital High School in 1978 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea for two years. Her military occupational specialty was communications.

While in the Army, Shelley met and married Bill Garcia in 1981, and they made their home in Tampa. They have a son, Richard.

Shelley was an avid reader, member of the Capital High Swim Team, a Worthy Advisor of Rainbow and a lifetime member of Miriam Chapter No. 1. She was about to retire from the Tampa Sheriff's Department after 25 years of service.

Shelley is preceded in death by her husband, Bill and infant sister, Bonnie.

She is survived by her son, Richard, 19, of Tampa; her parents, Charles and Alice Douglass of Helena; brother, Charles M. (Bartha) Douglass of Great Falls; sister, Linda (Dick) Cortright of Denver; brother, Jeff (Linda) Douglass of Helena; stepdaughter, Lisa Rodriquez; and stepson, Robert Garcia of Massachusetts; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service for Shelley at 11 a.m. Nov. 24 at the Covenant United Methodist Church, 2330 E. Broadway. Shelley touched so many lives, more than we will ever know. We will miss her terribly and her giggles of delight will always fill our hearts. Thank you, Shelley, for being ours.
