Poet. Born in Vyšný Kubín, Slovakia, he was a dramatist Slovak poet and speech translator. He first wrote in a traditional style, but later became influenced by parnassism and modernism. His poetics used drama conveyed faithfully and in the spirit of the original Slovak national life. Under the Slovak literary culture, his poetry was translated into several foreign languages and become the expression of European humanists. His works included “Sonnets” (1882), “Growth Rings” (1885), “Psalms and Hymns” (1892), “Walks through Spring” (1898) and “Bloody Sonnets” (1914). For a short time he was also a member of the Czechoslovak parliament. He died at the age of 72 in Dolny Cubin, Slovakia.
