LOWELL-- Gerald A. Cobleigh of Lowell, a former Tyngsboro resident for seven decades and a 40-year employee at Raytheon Co., died yesterday, Sept. 13, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 72.
He was born in Tyngsboro on Aug. 18, 1934, son of the late Frank E. and Anna (Burton) Cobleigh. He attended Tyngsboro schools and graduated from Lowell High School in 1953.
Mr. Cobleigh was a resident of Tyngsboro for 70 years until moving to Lowell in 2004.
Prior to his retirement in 1996, he was a draftsman for 40 years at Raytheon's Tewksbury plant.
He was a former member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks and the Masonic Lodge in Quincy. In earlier years, he served as a coach for the Tyngsboro Youth Hockey Program.
Mr. Cobleigh enjoyed playing golf, watching sports and according to his family, was an avid New York Giants football fan.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathy A. Kourkoulos and her husband Leo of Tewksbury; two sons, Steven G. Cobleigh and his wife Elizabeth (Celeste) of Suwanee, Ga., and Michael J. Cobleigh of Englewood, Fla.; his former wife, Eleanor (Banakos) Cobleigh of Tewksbury; two sisters, Janice Taylor and her husband Richard of Nashua. and Elsie M. Wyman and her husband George of Westford; five brothers, Morris H. Cobleigh and his wife Pauline of Westford, James D. Cobleigh and his wife Shirley of Nashua, Raymond E. Cobleigh and his wife Janie of Tewksbury, Robert W. Cobleigh and his wife Linda, in Florida, and David B. Cobleigh and his wife Patricia of Westford; four grandchildren, Nicholas C. Cobleigh of Suwanee, Ga., Christos L. Kourkoulos of Tewksbury, Brandon and Samantha Bacca of Raymond, N.H.; a brother-in-law; Harold Gilpatrick of Chelmsford; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Frank E. Cobleigh Jr., Russell N. Cobleigh, Gladys M. Anderson, Dorothy E. Hutchinson and Muriel V. Gilpatrick.
A funeral was held Sept. 16, from the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home in Tewksbury. Burial was in Thompson Cemetery, Tyngsboro.
