Painter. Ján Mudroch was a Slovak painter, whose work consist of still life paintings and often made use of metaphors and symbols. In 2011, his paintings, depending on the size and medium, were selling at auction at nearly $20,000. He was the first principal of the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. He was a co-founder of a group that published surrealist magazines and anthologies. During World War II, he created works that strongly expressed the misery in his country , which was then Czechoslovakia. He turned towards Poetic Realism after the war. He was awarded the title of "Artist of Outstanding Merit" of Slovakia in 1963 and posthumously the title of "National Artist" of Slovakia in 1968. He paintings are on exhibition at Slovak National Gallery, Ernest Zmeták Art Gallery, Central Slovakian Gallery, and other galleries.
