Charles Alton Mitchell died April 29, 2007, in his home in Manhattan. He was born Oct. 29, 1934, in Tracy, Minn., to George and Hazel Mitchell. He grew up with his two sisters, Jean Hagen and Shirley Matson.

He graduated Tracy High School in 1952 and was a wrestling heavy champion and a captain of the football squad.
Charles was a Marine in the military and served in the Korean War as a sergeant and was honorably discharged. He then went to work with the railroad and retired as a conductor after 40 years.

Charles married Alice Woods, and the couple had five children. He was also the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, who loved him very much.
