Mr. James Taylor, a well-known citizen of this place, died very suddenly on Saturday afternoon at about half past one o'clock. For some time past Mr. Taylor has not been in good health, but has been able to walk about the city and enjoy the company of his friends. On Saturday morning at about 11 o'clock he called at the store of Messrs. Hurst & Ruth, on the south side of the square, and went up stairs for the purpose of lying down to rest, and just as he had reached the room above, he was seized with an attack of paralysis, and fell forward upon the floor. He was taken up and placed in as comfortable a position as possible and medical aid was sent for. He was sufficiently conscious to express the opinion that medical aid was not necessary, as he thought that he should soon be better. A physician soon arrived and although everything possible was done for Mr. Taylor's relief, yet he gradually grew worse and died as above stated.
The deceased was widely known, having held several prominent positions of trust. He was at one time sheriff of Cass county, and had also been assessor and collector of this city.
The deceased leaves a family in this city consisting of a wife, daughter and two sons. Edward Taylor, Esq., of this city, is his brother; Mrs. David Kreigh, of Chicago, and Mrs. Charles R. Hurst, of this city, are his sisters, and Mrs. James M. Epler, of Jacksonville, is his daughter.
He was well and favorably known in this county, and his death will be regretted by a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 4 o'clock, from his late residence on Marker street, between Lewis and New streets.
