Businessman Dies at Age 70
Ex-bank Director Lifelong Wichitan
Oak L. Throckmorton, 70, of 4520 N. Meridian, a lifelong resident of Wichita and businessman, died Friday at Wesley Hospital after a four-month illness.
Born March 31, 1887, in Wichita, Mr. Throckmorton was the grandson of a pioneer couple who came to Wichita in 1872. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Throckmorton, homesteaded the tract of land on which he made his home.
Mr. Throckmorton had investment interests in real estate, oil development, and considerable farm land. He was a former director of Fourth National Bank. He was educated in Wichita public schools and attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He married Helen Crammer Thompson in 1912. She died in 1929. He later married Mable I. Johnson in 1948. She survives. Mr. Throckmorton was a member of Wichita Country Club, Wichita Club, Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Survivors besides his wife include three daughters, Mrs. Floyd Osborn, 1225 N. Dellrose, Mrs. Alvin R. Winzeler, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Mrs. Forest Cox, Jackson, Miss.; a sister, Mrs. Edgar Amsden, 358 N. Dellrose; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Gill Mortuary.
