Playwright, Screenwriter. She was born Ruth Goodman and grew up in New York City. She met her future husband and collaborator, Augustus Goetz, while sailing to Europe with her family. They married on October 11, 1932 and eventually settled in Keller's Church, Bucks County, PA. They collaborated on "The Heiress", an adaptation of the Henry James novel, Washington Square. For this they were nominated for Best Written American Drama by the Writers Guild of America in 1950. "The Heiress" also was recognized with a Tony Award for Best Revival of a play in 1995. She and her husband co-wrote "Carrie", "Rhapsody", and "Stage Struck". She also wrote "Sweet Love Remember'd", which closed in 1959 following the death of its star, Margaret Sullavan. In her later years, Goetz was involved with benevolent works. She died from complications of a stroke.
