Melba Earlene Vandruff, 64, of Pittsburg, Kansas, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, January 21, 2008, at her home in Pittsburg, Kansas.
She was born August 1, 1943, south of Strauss, Kansas, to Melvin Earl and Opal (Blackburn) Hey.
She went to grade school in McCune and Liberty. The family moved to Pittsburg in 1957, where she attended Pittsburg High School.
She attended United Chapel Methodist Church in McCune.
She married Lawrence Bolte in 1959. They had three children, but were later divorced.
She married Charles Roy Vandruff February 9, 1982 in Oklahoma. He preceded her in death.
She worked as a waitress, nurse's aide and for Western Electric, where she became a member of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
She cared for her mother in her home for 15 years. They moved from Miami, OK, back to Pittsburg in 1996.
Melba is survived by her children, Malena Madden of Lanagan, MO, Greg Bolte of Pittsburg, KS, a brother Robert Earl Hey and wife Marilou of Indianapolis, IN, two sisters; Myrena Hawn and Sheila Burrous both of Pittsburg, KS; six grandchildren, Chris, Michael, Kim, Britney, Matthew, and LaDonna; two recognized grandchildren, Cherry and Dusty; two great-grandchildren, Kylie and Trenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Bolte; and by her parents.
Services will be January 25, 2008, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, Kansas, with Rev. Beryl Darnell officiating. Burial will be in the Cherokee City Cemetery, Cherokee, Kansas.
The family suggests memorials to the SEK Humane Society.
These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary.
