Died, at the residence of her son Nicholas, at the corner of Ninth and Mason streets, at half past eleven o'clock Monday night, March 23, Mrs. Genaveva Figueira, aged 83 years and 9 months. The husband of this venerable lady died a little less than a year ago. They were born on the Island of Madeira, where they lived the greater part of their lives, but finally abandoned their all there and came to this country, in order that they might enjoy the blessing of religious liberty, which had been denied them in their native land. They arrived in New York in 1848, and remained there until 1851, when they came to Springfield. The last words of deceased were, "I want to go to my father in heaven." She was a faithful member of the First Presybterian Portuguese church, and died in the hope of a glorious immortality. The funeral services will be held this afternoon, at the church. Friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend without further notice. IL State Register, Springfield, IL 3-25-1885
