Elizabeth was born in Hesse Darmstadt, Germany. She married C. L. Feldweg in New York City November 7, 1863.
Although they never had any children of their own, they raised four little ones to adulthood, namely: Mrs. Lizzie Williams of St. Louis, Mrs. Mary Edwards of Kansas City and Mrs. Dena Price of Nevada and one boy John Coltzalso.
Additional:
According to records in Groß-Zimmern, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, her given name was "Elisabetha," which was shortened in America to "Elisabeth" spelled with an "s," and not a "z." Throughout her life, however, she was known simply as "Lizzie."
Elisabeth Schaefer married Carl Leopold Feldweg at New York's old Madison Street German Presbyterian Church on 7 November 1863. As you report, she and Carl never had children, but raised four of nine children born to her sister (my maternal great-grandmother) Christina Schaefer Zotz and her husband, Jakob. The children,: John, Elizabeth ("Lizzie"), Mary Anna, and Christina Maria Zotz, were sent to live with the Feldwegs following the death of their father in 1875.
John eventually returned to New York City, apparently never married, and disappeared from the family's sight by about 1910. Lizzie married Ira H. Williams and moved to Los Angeles following Ira's death in St. Louis in 1910. Lizzie had one daughter, Mona, and died in Los Angeles in 1941, apparently after a long bout with mental problems. Mary Anna never married and died in St. Louis in 1898. Christina or "Dena" as she was sometimes called, married William H. Price and followed him across the West, eventually settling in Los Angeles. The Prices had no children.
