He was the owner/publisher of the weekly newspaper, "The Messanger", distributed in Crooksville, Perry County, Ohio. Upon his retirement, he sold the newspaper; moved to Roseville, and went into real estate.
Following the death of Lesta, he was united in marriage to Nina Leona (Weaver) Campbell.
He died in the Zanesville Hospital, Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio, following an illness of a week. He was interned on February 1, 1963 beside his first wife.

Retired Newspaper Publisher, Native of Lewisburg, Dies
Herbert J. Bierly, 78, a native of Lewisburg community and a longtime newspaper publisher died Wednesday in the Zanesville hospital. He had been ill about a week.
Mr. Bierly published the "Messenger," weekly newspaper at Crooksville, for many years. He disposed of the business some years ago and moved to Roseville where he engaged in the real estate business. He was a brother of E.J. Bierly, widely-known Lewisburg business man, who returned from his winter home in Bradenton, Fla., to attend the final rites which were held in Crooksville, Saturday. Other relatives attending the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bierly of Piqua, Mrs. Richard Emrick and Mrs. Russell Kehr.
