George M. D. Riley was born January 7, 1847 in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. His father was born in Ireland. He married Eliza Englert Miller Riley of Augusta, and they had six children: Georgia Whitman Riley, Robert Fleming Riley, twins Henry Stephen Riley and William Duncan Riley, Frances Riley Caldwell, and Thomas Carleton Riley. He also had two step-daughters, Romana H. Miller Riley and Valesci ("Vallie") Adeline Miller Riley Gallaway, by his wife's first husband. George died at age 59 on August 21, 1906 in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia. At the time he lived at 404 Henry Street, East. He is buried next to his wife in the Riley family plot in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah. His ancestry was Irish. I hope one of his descendants will add his photo to this site.
