MOCKETT, WILLIAM 1888-05-13 SPRINGFIELD 22 YR M 3091 SANGAMON
An inquest was held over the remains of William Mockett yesterday morning but little additional light was shed upon the case. The verdict of the jury was to the effect he took his life by shooting himself. It was said by some that he was in love with a woman and had asked her to be his wife and that she refused on account of their short acquaintance. He has a step father in Bloomington, it is said, and the body is held pending an answer from him. He has a mother in Germany. His employer said he was very steady.

Note: William is in an unmarked grave in a section of Block 1 where there are hundreds of single unmarked graves as shown in the photo of the area. About ten stones are all that remain in this section and all have been photographed. No stone was found for William.
