The world is a sadder place today following the death of our mother and grandmother, Opal Gertrude Ritter. Gran was welcomed into the world June 8, 1910 in Yarrellton, Texas by her parents John Hardy and Bertha Johnson Robertson. Her family finally settled in the Corpus Christi area and it was the place she would always call her home. It was also in Corpus Christi she met "the most handsome man in the world," Carl Bernard Ritter. They were married in 1927 and had 68 years together before his death in 1995.

Ben and Opal were blessed with three wonderful children, Carl Bernard Ritter, Jr., Gordon Harrison Ritter, and Beverly Ann Ritter Smith. Opal was a homemaker who enjoyed having coffee with her friends, dancing, playing dominoes and bridge. We will miss our games of Skip-Bo and Uno!

Opal is survived by her daughter and caretaker, Beverly; daughters-in-law Lila Ritter Menges and Maxine Ritter; grandchildren Carl Bernard Ritter, III; Jill Rehage and husband, Jack; Bobby Ritter and wife, Twyla; Shana Harlow and husband, Dale; and Todd Murphy. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren and seven great great-grandchildren; brother, Pud Robertson and wife, Mary; and a host of special nieces and nephews. Opal was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ben; sons, Carl Bernard, Jr., and Gordon; granddaughter, Shelley; and grandson, Byron.

Visitation and a Celebration of Life memorial service were held Feb. 8 & 9 at Cage-Mills Funeral Home. Interment followed at Seaside Memorial Park.
