James was born the son of the late William Sim Holderfield and Ella Thrasher Holderfield. He was a member of New Antioch Church of Christ. Mr. Holderfield was a disabled Army veteran of World War II, a decorated prisoner of war who received the P.O.W. Medal, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He is survived by one son, Robert Holderfield, and his wife, Alice, of Florence; one daughter, Nancy Loosier, and her husband, Wayne, of Courtland; four grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

Funeral for James Oscar Holderfield, 89, of Courtland will be Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Hoyt Nelson officiating.
Burial will be in Courtland City Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mr. Holderfield, who died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at ECM Hospital in Florence, was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Lawrence County to William Sim Holderfield and Ella Thrasher Holderfield. He was a retired carpenter. He was a member of New Antioch Church of Christ. Mr. Holderfield was a disabled Army veteran of World War II, a decorated prisoner of war who received the P.O.W. Medal, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.
He is survived by one son, Robert Holderfield, and his wife, Alice, of Florence; one daughter, Nancy Loosier, and her husband, Wayne, of Courtland; four grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Frank Holderfield, Ted Holderfield, Roald Nelson, Chris Bowling, Jimmy Williams and Wayland Cross.
