SHELBY — The Rev. Mickhell Gene "Michael" Weaver, 50, of 1462 Williamson Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.

He was born Oct. 1, 1957, to Earlene Fuller Weaver and the late Luther "Luke" Weaver, in Dade County, Fla.
He was a graduate of Crest High School and Cleveland Community College in Shelby and Fruitland Seminary College in Hendersonville. He served as an associate pastor of the Long Branch First Baptist Church.

Despite battling illness for some time, he was an active community member. His love for music and for people was exemplified through his many affiliations. He served as board member of the Thomas A. Dorsey National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses Inc; president and founder of Greater Cleveland County Choral Union; a member of the Cleveland County AIDS/HIV Habitat Task Force and Planning Committee; vice president of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Association Layman's League, and a member of the Layman's League Chorus; and Long Branch All Male Chorus and Spiritual Choir. In addition to his many musical talents, Michael was also a superb chef. He had a distinct love for food and enjoyed catering special events.
He leaves behind his loving mother, Earlene Fuller Weaver of Shelby; two brothers, John L. Weaver (Jacqueline R.) of Strasburg, Va., and Bernard Weaver (Diane) of Shelby; two sisters, Verberlya "Velvet" Ahrens (David) of Columbia, S.C., and Bernita Weaver of Shelby; family members, Joseph and Jean Williams and Brenda Osborne; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
