US Congressman. From 1781 to 1784, he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives and served in the State Senate in 1789. In 1797, he was elected as a Federalist to the Fifth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Theophilus Bradbury, and reelected to the Sixth Congress, serving until 1801. Not a candidate for renomination, he was appointed Sheriff of Essex County, Massachusetts and served until his death.
