Richard was born and raised in Jamaica and lived there all of his life until he enlisted in the Marines 24 January 1968, at Fort Hamilton, New York.
When Richard arrived in Vietnam 18 July 1968, was assigned to Alpha Company,1st Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. Alpha Company was at the Mortar Battery, 1st Battalion, 13th Marine Regiment artillery position located at the Cao Dei Peninsula and 4 kilometers northwest of Phu Loc, when the perimeter was attacked by
hostile forces. Richard died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile rifle fire. The Marines lost 18 men during the hostile attack.
Survived by his parents, Richard and Doris Addison of 109-11 217th St, Queens Village, Jamaica, New York.
