Betty S. Thompson, 75, of Parkersburg, WV died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 14, 1929 in Parkersburg, WV, a daughter of the late Hoye A. and Nelle Dollman Spessert. Mrs. Thompson was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and Mountain State Business College. She was an active member of Parkview United Methodist Church and for many years served as church secretary and organist.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Everett Thompson; one daughter, Lois Thompson of Cross Lanes, WV; one son, David Thompson of Elizabeth, WV; and one grandson, Eric Thompson of Mt. Zion, WV.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Feher; and two brothers, Clyde and John Spessert.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg, WV with Pastor Warren Dove assisted by the Reverend Richard Lennan officiating. The family will greet friends from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday and friends may also call from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Services will conclude with burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Active casket bearers are: John Chepes, Jim Foutty, Tom Houghton, Jim Lambert, Junior Lockhart, Ollie Offutt, Kenneth Thompson and Robert Wheeler. Honorary casket bearers are: Robert Davis, Paul Farr, Lee Hersman, Eugene Knotts, Denver Reed, Howard Thompson, Edgar Turner and James White. The family extends an invitation to join them for a fellowship meal in the Fellowship Hall of Parkview United Methodist Church at 23rd Street and Parkview Avenue, Parkersburg, WV after the conclusion of services.
