Thomas Haley was the eldest son of William Haley and Mary Ann Rhoads Haley. He was a wheelwright all of his working life. In 1910 he was a wheelwright at Bancroft Mills. He married first Elizabeth "Lizzie" Delaney Strickler, and they had two sons, Elmer and Winfield, who had untimely deaths. They had two other children as well who did not survive childhood. Lizzie Haley died in 1908, and Thomas Haley married a second time in 1910 Mary Jane Ingram. They lived on Clayton Street in Wilmington. Shortly afterwards Thomas Haley died.
Thomas Haley, both of his wives, and his sons Elmer and Winfield are memorialized on the same monument in Mount Salem Cemetery.
