Soul Singer. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he relocated to California and began singing in Blues groups in nightclubs or wherever he could. In 1966, he was introduced to singer Johnny Rivers, who signed Wilson as a soloist with Soul City Records. He then began a career of chart-topping music with his first hit "The Snake," in 1968. His many hits included "Shake Me, Wake Me" (1969), "I Stand Accused" (1969), "Touch and Go" (1974), "I Won't Last a Day Without You (1975)" and "Be The One" (1975). His second album, "Weighing In," sold over two million copies and also contained his biggest number one single, "Show and Tell," in 1973. In his later years, he continued to perform and, in 1999, was honored by the California State Assembly in the first class of Freedom Fighters for Musical Arts.
