Karl arrived in Vietnam 4 August 1969 and was assigned to E Company, 723rd Maintenance Battalion, Americal Division, USARV. Karl was a passenger aboard a UH-1H #67-17175, when the helicopter had transmission seizure due to zero oil pressure lost. The pilot attempted to control and land the helicopter, but it crashed and burned. Karl and 9 soldiers died as a result of bodily injuries from the helicopter crash.
Survived by his parents, Mr & Mrs James E Brown of 1061 Myrtle Avenue, Apt 6-C, Brooklyn, New York.
