Robert was living in Uniondale, when he was drafted into the US Army.
Upon arriving in Vietnam 20 November 1968, Robert was assigned to B Company, 3rd Battalion, 39th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, USARV. The battalion was participating in a combat , when B Company encountered a company of hostile forces in the vicinity of the Cam Son Area and 8 kilometers southeast of the Cai Lay Airfield in Dinh Tuong Province. Robert died as a result of a gunshot wound to the body from hostile sniper fire. The company lost 4 soldiers.
Survived by his mother, Catherine Buckley and his sister and 2 brothers; Patricia, Kenneth and Donald, all of 702 Midwood Street, Uniondale, New York.
Awarded 2 Bronze Star Medals (Merit) and (Valor) and the Silver Star.
