After arriving in Vietnam 8 February 1969, Michael was assigned to Advisor Team 26,
Headquarters, Military Assistance Command Vietnam Advisors, Military Assistance Command Vietnam. Michael was at the Advisor Team 26 base when he noticed an unexploded enemy rocket and upon picking up the enemy rocket it detonated killing Michael from the explosion. Cause of death was listed as Self Destruction.
