Ruth J. (Hutsler) Dermid, 84, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, October 16, 2007.

Ruth was born August 31, 1923 in Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Homer and Mamie (Berry) Hutsler.

She attended and graduated from South Haven High School in 1940. Ruth met her husband, Mac, and they were united in marriage four years later on January 23, 1944. Together they established their home in Wichita, Kansas. To this union one son was born, Paul B. Dermid.

Ruth was employed 39 years at Hinkles Department Store in Wichita. She also shared her love and compassion as she worked at St. Joseph Medical Center for 19 years. After moving to Caldwell, Ruth worked for KanOkla until her retirement. In her nine years at KanOkla, Ruth made many friends.

Ruth loved music and played keyboard with several different musical groups. She delighted in playing music with George Downum and Kenny Boyd.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Mamie Hutsler, her husband Horace (Mac) Dermid, and brother Bill Hutsler. She is survived by her son Paul B. Dermid of Wichita, her sister Betty Scott of Wichita and brother Berry Hutsler of Caldwell, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2007 at the Day Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell, Kansas. Rev. Alan Albright will officiate. Garret Thompson will play guitar and sing "How Great Thou Art" and "The King Is Coming".

Interment will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2007 at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.

Memorials may be given in Ruth's name to the Sumner County Hospital District #1, Caldwell, Kansas.
