Grandmother of 22 and Great-Grandmother of 57.

Maria lived to be 93 years, 4 months, and 21 days old and lived 43 of those without her husband, who died in 1890. She was a longtime member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Dundas, Illinois. In her later years, she stayed at her children's homes in the Newton, Illinois, area for several weeks at a time, often sitting on the porch smoking her corncob pipe. Her great-grandchildren thought that was something special to be able to light her pipe. They always knew when she was ready to move on when she came out to the porch with her bonnet on and suitcase in hand.
