Mrs. Elizabeth Blackwood Smith, 83, sister of the late Gov. Ibra C. Blackwood and last surviving member of her immediate family, died early Thursday in General Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Smith, resident of 1166 Woodburn Rd, and aunt of County Judge Charles M. Pace, was a native of Blackwood and the widow of Floyd Thomas Smith, president of Smith-Wilkerson Guano Co. He died in 1953. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Louvenia Burns Blackwood and was secretary of the corporate business until her husband's retirement in 1946. She also was certified as a teacher in the Spartanburg public schools but had managed the family property since the death of her husband. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Converse College Alumnae Association, County Club, Circle Bridge Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. She attended public schools and Converse College. Survivors; nieces, Mrs. John M. Roberson, Cape Coral, FL, Miss Laurie Blackwood, Columbia,; nephews, Judge Charles M. Pace, Ralph C. Alexander, Spartanburg, and Col. Charles McDowell Blackwood, Mobile, AL. Gov. Blackwood died Feb 12, 1936. Services 11 Saturday at J.F. Floyd Mortuary by the Rev. Alastair Walker, burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers; Thomas W. Whiteside, Horace C. Smith, Bruce Littlejohn, Charles L. Yeomans, Frank Hudges, Jr., Claude R. Dunbar, William K. Cox, Judge Ralph W. Mitchell.
