French Infantry Mascot (Dog). Mémère, was the mascot of infantry all through World War I, until he died at the age of 15. The sculpture that adorns his grave stretches out a paw to a helmeted soldier. The translation on his grave marker reads, “Born 2nd Aug 1914, Died Aged 15 Years, Famous Mascot of the Light Infantry, previously belonged to Madame Sautet, Knight of the Legion of Honour.”
