Robert Sydboten McCook was the son of McKendree McCook and Leola Sydboten McCook.

2nd Lt Robert S McCook (Service # 0-811417) was the co-pilot of the LILLIE BELL', a B-24 Bomber. The plane was lost in North Sea on return flight from a mission into Germany. It plane was badly damaged, lost fuel, and could not make it back to England. From a crew of ten, there was one survivor, bombardier Lt Gerald Joseph "Joe" Cyr of Old Town, ME, who gave a personal account of the ditching.

The crew served with the 735th Squadron of the 453rd Bomb Group, Heavy. The home base was Old Buckenham Field, England

The mission was flown the first day of daylight bombings over Germany on 6 Mar 1944.

2nd Lt McCook had flown 6 missions.

According to the report complied after the ditching. 2nd Lt Robert S McCook survived the ditching but died in the hospital. He was listed as KIA. The reports say he was buried in the American Military Cemetery in Cambridge England 9 Mar 1944 at 1500 hours.

On 13 Nov 1944, 2nd Lt McCook's mother, Leola S McCook of Knoxville, TN, requested more information about his service.
