Myrtle Teig Rolstad, age 96, of Northfield, died on Sunday, June 1, 2008, at the Northfield Hospital, after a fall in her home.

Myrtle was born April 7, 1912, in Lakefield, Minn., to John and Marie (Shefland) Teig. When she was two years old, the family moved to their farm near Slayton, Minn. Myrtle finished teacher's training at Slayton and then taught at her home school as well as serving as 4-H leader in their township and as organist and Sunday School superintendent. She married Joseph Rolstad on June 1, 1938. The couple began their married life on the Rolstad family farm near Garvin, Minn. In 1944 they moved to Mankato, Minn. Myrtle began working in retail in 1950 and continued to work full-time for the next 27 years until she retired from Midtex-Telex Company in 1977.

After her retirement, Myrtle and Joseph moved to Northfield where she was active in the quilting group and bell choir at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, while also being full-time caretaker for her husband, who was homebound following a stroke. After Joseph's death in 1984, Myrtle moved to 1000 Cannon Valley Dr. where she enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles and taking many tours around the United States and Europe. Myrtle moved to Cannon Valley Suites in February 2005, where she continued to enjoy making new friends and sharing daily life and activities.

Though Myrtle was 96 years old, she still celebrated life up until the day of her death.

Myrtle is survived by her sister, Bernice Anderson of St. James; two daughters, Janet Singer of Crystal, Minn., and Ardythe "Ann" (Clem) MacIlravie of Carlile, Wyo.; granddaughters, Annemarie Singer of Golden Valley, Minn., and Nancy Singer (Chris) Carlson of Eau Claire, Wis.; grandson, Lorn (Reina) MacIlravie; great-grandchildren, Clara, Alex and Sarah of Gillette, Wyo.; step-grandchildren, Clare MacIlravie and Stuart MacIlravie of Minneapolis, Ross MacIlravie of New Prague, Minn., and Lorna MacIlravie (Brendan) Link and their daughter Rosa of Bismarck, N.D.; and many nieces and nephews.
