Roman Catholic Cardinal. Brisighella born Dino Monduzzi entered seminary in Faenza later moving to Rome to further his studies at the Pontifical Lateran University from where he obtained a licentiate in utroque iure. Ordained priest on July 22, 1945 by Msgr. Giuseppe Battaglia, he served as collaborator in the Catholic Action social missions in several Italian regions, especially Calabria and Sardinia and spiritual assistant to the agrarian reform zones of Fucino between 1954 and 1959. Adjunct and later secretary for the audiences in the office of the Master of the Papal Chamber from May 1959 till 1967, Monduzzi was named Privy Chamberlain Supernumerary of His Holiness on March 24, 1961. Secretary and later regent of the Pontifical Household of the Vatican City from 1967 until 1986, he was named Prelate of Honor of His Holiness on June 6, 1970. Elected bishop of the titular see Capri and appointed prefect of the Pontifical Household by Pope John Paul II on December 18, 1986, he received his episcopal consecration on January 6 of the following year at the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica from the named Pontiff. Participating in the preparation of 130 pastoral pilgrimages of Pope John Paul II in Italy and 268 pastoral visits to Roman parishes, Monduzzi retired from the prefecture on February 7, 2001 and was created cardinal deacon in the consistory held fourteen days later with the deaconry of San Sebastiano al Palatino. The Cardinal died on Thursday, October 13, 2006 following a long illness at 1 am., at the Vatican City. Pope Benedict XVI celebrated his funeral mass on three days later in the altar of the chair of the Patriarchal Vatican Basilica.
