Seattle Mayor. He served as mayor of Seattle, Washington from August 1873 to August 1874. He was elected as Seattle's fourth mayor on July 14, 1873. One of Seattle's earliest and most successful businessmen, he was involved in numerous investment opportunities including banking, railroading, gas lighting, electric street cars, hotels, book publishing, coal and irrigation projects. In addition to serving as mayor, he also served as a member of the Seattle City Council from 1869 to 1870, 1874 to 1875 and from 1880 to 1883.
