HERBERT AMBLER
A funeral for Herbert Ambler of Southwest Portland, a retired vice president for U.S. Bank, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Methodist Church. Private interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery.

Mr. Ambler died of causes related to age Wednesday in a Portland care center. He was 94.

He was born May 3, 1896, in Keighley, England. He immigrated to the United States in 1913 at the age of 17, and moved to Astoria in 1918. He married Helen Gordon in 1927 and moved to Portland that same year.

After moving to Portland, he went to work for Citizens Bank, which became affiliated with U.S. Bank shortly thereafter. He worked for the bank for about 37 years until his retirement as vice president and manager in 1964.

Mr. Ambler was an active member of First United Methodist Church. He had been involved in volunteer projects for Goodwill Industries and served as president of the organization during the 1960s.

After his retirement, he was associated with Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) and served on the board for Willamette View Manor. He spent several summers studying at Rutgers University's Graduate School of Banking.

Survivors other than his wife include daughters, Shirley Jean Beckett of Dearfield, Ill., and Susan Joyce Carter of Vancouver, Wash.; son, John S. of Houston; sister, Alice Ambler of Portland; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The family suggests that remembrances be contributions to First United Methodist Church or Goodwill Industries.
