Floyd was drafted into the US Army. Arriving in Vietnam 10 March 1967, Floyd was assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, USARV. The battalion was on a mission to locate and recover the bodies of Special Forces that had been killed in action. A Company engaged hostile NVA forces from the 6th Battalion, 24th Regiment in the vicinity of Hill 1338 and 7 kilometers southwest of Dak To City. During the intense fighting A, B and C Company lost 77 men and the NVA lost 106 men. Floyd died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile rifle fire.
Survived by his parents, Mr & Mrs Francis d Quarles of 995 Boston Road, Bronx, New York.
