Actor. He is best remembered for his television roles including that of 'Major Garland Briggs' on "Twin Peaks" from 1990 to 1991, and that of 'Major General George S. Hammond' on "Stargate SG-1" from 1997 to 2007. Born Donald Sinclair Davis in Aurora, Missouri, he was educated at the Southwest Missouri State College in theater and art, and later at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he received his master's degree in theatre in 1970. Turning to teaching after graduating Davis taught for a number of years and served as a Captain in the U.S. Army before returning to Southern Illinois University to complete his Ph.D. in theatre. He retired from teaching in 1987 to focus more on his acting career. Though theatre and teaching was his first love, Davis made his acting debut in a TV guest appearance as 'Benny' on the television series, "Joanie Loves Chachi" in 1982.
